Teen in Central Islip indicted for attempted murder following shooting of two individuals at local pool.

A 15-year-old boy from Long Island has been indicted for attempted murder following a shooting incident at a Central Islip apartment complex pool on June 19. The Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office announced the indictment on Thursday, detailing the events that transpired during a confrontation between two groups of teenagers.

The shooting occurred around 4:30 p.m. in the Hawthorne Living apartment complex, a residence noted for its luxury amenities. According to prosecutors, the two groups engaged in a physical altercation at the swimming pool when the teenager reportedly took a firearm from his backpack and fired at least 10 rounds. Investigators later determined that seven shots struck the intended target, a 16-year-old male, along with a 25-year-old woman who was accompanying him that day.

Both victims sustained serious injuries and were transported to area hospitals for emergency treatment. The 16-year-old was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip, while the female victim was admitted to South Shore University Hospital in Bay Shore. The names of both victims have not been publicly disclosed.

Following the shooting, authorities recovered 10 spent shell casings and multiple bullet fragments from the scene, one of which penetrated a nearby apartment, highlighting the potential danger posed by the incident. The suspect fled the scene but was subsequently apprehended on August 14 in Amityville, approximately 13 miles from Central Islip.

In the subsequent court proceedings, the minor was arraigned on charges including attempted murder, assault, criminal possession of a weapon, among others. If convicted of the top charge, he faces a maximum sentence of ten years in prison. He is scheduled to return to court on October 21 for further proceedings.

Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney expressed his commitment to pursuing justice in this case, stating that such violence is unacceptable in the community. The ongoing legal process will determine the outcome of the charges against the teenager, as the community grapples with the repercussions of this alarming incident.

This event underscores a troubling trend of youth violence, raising concerns among residents and officials alike about safety and community responsibility.
