Teens who fled Delco reform school linked to armed robbery incident in Washington D.C., according to police.

Three teenagers from Washington, D.C., who were residents of a reform school in Thornbury Township, Pennsylvania, escaped from the facility late on Sunday evening, subsequently stealing a staff member’s vehicle and participating in an armed robbery in the nation’s capital, as reported by local law enforcement officials.

The escaped individuals have been identified as Javontay Johnson, 18, Daijon Bourn, 17, and a 15-year-old juvenile whose name has not been disclosed. The Pennsylvania State Police confirmed that the teens were reported missing from the Clock Tower School shortly after 2 p.m. on Sunday.

During their daring escape, the group reportedly stole a 2016 Land Rover and a cellphone, the latter of which played a crucial role in tracking their movements. Investigators utilized the stolen cellphone to track them down to Delaware, although the phone was ultimately deactivated. Additionally, the teenagers had GPS ankle monitors that aided authorities in following their whereabouts after they fled the facility.

The stolen Land Rover was involved in a shooting and robbery that took place on Eighth Street in Washington, D.C., shortly before 11 p.m. on the same day. Following a brief pursuit, law enforcement officers were able to stop the vehicle and apprehend three of the suspects, including Bourn. Meanwhile, two individuals managed to evade capture and fled the scene on foot.

In connection with the robbery and subsequent actions, Bourn has been charged as an adult with assault with a deadly weapon, robbery, and related offenses. Johnson was taken into custody late Tuesday in Washington, D.C., and has been charged with absconding from a secure facility after fleeing the Clock Tower School. Police have indicated that an investigation into his possible involvement in the armed robbery is ongoing.

As of Wednesday evening, the whereabouts of the 15-year-old suspect remain unknown. The judicial decision that mandated the attendance of these youths at the Clock Tower School has not been disclosed, leaving open questions regarding the circumstances that led them to this residential facility, which is located on a site formerly occupied by the Glen Mills School.

Attempts to reach staff at the reform school for comment were unsuccessful.

This incident highlights ongoing concerns regarding the safety and management of juvenile facilities and raises questions about the protocols in place for monitoring the movements and behaviors of at-risk youth. As investigations continue, further developments are anticipated in this unfolding story.
