Residents in the Beit Lahiya area of northern Gaza were seen fleeing their homes on Friday, carrying only essential belongings as the bombardment intensified. Reports from the International Organization for Migration (IOM) indicate that more than 19,000 Palestinians have been displaced since Thursday afternoon alone. Many have had to abandon their homes with little more than the clothes on their backs, facing severe challenges as safe havens become increasingly elusive.
The ongoing conflict has resulted in widespread displacement among Gaza’s population, with nearly all residents having been forced to leave their homes at some point. The situation has worsened as Israeli forces reportedly increase the number of forced displacement orders alongside heightened military activity in the enclave.
In a recent Arabic statement, the Israeli military announced the commencement of what it refers to as Operation Gideon’s Chariots. This operation is characterized as an effort to expand military operations within the Gaza Strip, with stated objectives that include the release of hostages and a strategic aim to combat Hamas. Accompanying this, an English statement indicated that troops are being mobilized to achieve operational control over key areas in Gaza.
Since early October 2024, the escalating conflict has reportedly claimed the lives of over 53,119 Palestinians, with more than 120,214 individuals injured, according to Gaza’s Ministry of Health. The Government Media Office in Gaza has further updated the death toll to more than 61,700, indicating a somber reality for a region rife with suffering, as many remain trapped under the rubble, presumed deceased.
