A tragic accident in New Jersey on Thursday resulted in the deaths of three adults and a child, sparking widespread concern and grief within the community. The four-vehicle collision occurred at approximately 3:20 p.m. on Route 10 in Randolph Township and involved a minivan used to transport special needs students, according to reports from local authorities.

The Morris County Prosecutor’s Office is conducting an ongoing investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash. According to official statements, the victims include Bertha Castaneda, aged 67; Maria Figueroa, aged 58; and Diane Goetz, aged 71. Both Castaneda and Figueroa were passengers in the minivan linked to P.G. Chambers School, a special education institution located in Cedar Knolls.

In addition to the adults, a 4-year-old boy named Yexsel Reyes Granados also lost his life due to injuries sustained in the accident. Reports indicated that Yexsel had been fighting for his life at Morristown Hospital but ultimately succumbed to his injuries. His family described him as a spirited child who faced numerous challenges with courage and resilience. A GoFundMe campaign aimed at assisting with funeral expenses has raised over ,000 as of Friday night, reflecting the outpouring of support from the community. The fundraiser described Yexsel as a “sweet, courageous child whose light shone brightly.”

A second child involved in the incident was hospitalized, though updates regarding their current condition have not been disclosed. Additionally, two other adults received treatment for injuries sustained in the accident at the scene.

Morris County Prosecutor Robert J. Carroll characterized the incident as a tragic event for both Morris County and the larger community. Initial reports indicate that the Randolph Police Department, in coordination with the Morris County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Scene Investigation Unit, is actively involved in determining the factors that contributed to this devastating accident.

As the investigation progresses, the community mourns the losses and offers support to the affected families during this difficult time.
