Three armed individuals in a white Lexus robbed a man near Yankee Stadium, stealing a bag containing ,000 in cash.
In a brazen daytime robbery just two blocks from Yankee Stadium, three men in a white Lexus held a 53-year-old man at gunpoint, stealing a bag containing ,500 in cash. The incident occurred around 11 a.m. on Friday near the intersection of Gerard Avenue and East 157th Street in the Bronx, according to a report from law enforcement officials.
As the victim was exiting his vehicle, he was approached by the trio. One suspect brandished what appeared to be a black firearm, while the other two took the victim’s bag from him. Following the theft, the suspects fled the scene in the white Lexus, driving west on 157th Street toward River Avenue.
Fortunately, the victim was not injured during the incident. The police have since released surveillance images of the suspects, who are described as three Hispanic men in their late 20s, with heights ranging from 5 feet 7 inches to 5 feet 10 inches.
This robbery comes in contrast to recent trends in the neighborhood, as data from the New York Police Department indicates a notable decrease in crime. The 44th Precinct, which encompasses the area where the robbery occurred, has experienced a nearly 23 percent drop in robbery incidents. As of April 27, the precinct recorded 135 robberies compared to 175 during the same time frame in the previous year.
Authorities are appealing to the public for assistance in gathering information about the suspects. Individuals with any knowledge related to the event are encouraged to contact Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS. The police continue to investigate the robbery while trying to address concerns about safety in the area, especially given the recent drop in overall crime rates.
As the investigation unfolds, the Bronx community remains alert, hoping for swift justice and increased security measures to prevent further incidents like this one. The incident serves as a reminder of the complexities surrounding urban safety and the continuous efforts required by law enforcement to maintain peace within neighborhoods.
