Trump cancels Secret Service protection for Vice President Kamala Harris.

President Donald Trump has made the controversial decision to revoke Secret Service protection for former Vice President Kamala Harris, a move that precedes her upcoming book tour for her memoir, “107 Days,” according to various reports.

A senior advisor to Harris expressed gratitude towards the United States Secret Service for their dedication and professionalism in safeguarding her during her time in office. The decision to terminate protection, which is expected to take effect on Monday, has garnered attention, particularly as Harris prepares to launch a book tour spanning 15 cities and three countries to promote her memoir, reflecting on her unsuccessful presidential campaign.

In 2008, Congress enacted legislation allowing the Secret Service to provide protection to former vice presidents, their spouses, and their children under the age of 16 for up to six months post their term in office. However, prior to leaving office, former President Joe Biden signed an executive memorandum extending this protection period to 18 months, which would have allowed Harris to receive Secret Service support until July 2026. Instead, Harris, who was Trump’s Democratic opponent in the 2024 election, will lose her protective detail much earlier than anticipated.

Harris is set to release “107 Days” on September 23, with her tour commencing on September 24 in New York City. The memoir is expected to cover her experiences, challenges, and reflections during her time as Vice President and her presidential campaign.

This move marks Harris as the latest individual to have their protection rescinded by the Trump administration. Other notable figures affected by such actions include former national security adviser John Bolton and President Biden’s adult children, Hunter and Ashley Biden.

Under federal law, former presidents and their spouses are entitled to lifetime Secret Service protection unless they choose to opt-out. The agency also has the authority to protect the children of former presidents until they reach the age of 16. Following this latest decision, there are concerns regarding the implications for Harris’s safety as she embarks on her promotional activities.

As interest in Harris’ memoir grows, discussions surrounding the revocation of her protection continue to unfold, raising questions about the intersection of politics and personal security in the ever-evolving landscape of American governance.
