Two dead and multiple injured in shooting at Texas casino

Two individuals were tragically killed, including a retired U.S. Customs and Border Protection agent, during a shooting at the Kickapoo Lucky Eagle Casino in Eagle Pass, Texas, early Sunday morning. The incident occurred shortly after midnight and left several others injured as gunfire erupted during a crowded raffle event at the casino.

Local authorities identified the deceased as Marcus Antley, a retired CBP agent, and Alicia Sanchez, a resident of Dimmit County. Reports indicate that five additional individuals were seriously wounded and were airlifted to hospitals in San Antonio for urgent medical care.

The suspected gunman, 34-year-old Keryan Jones, was apprehended hours later in Stockdale, a town located approximately 180 miles east of the casino. Law enforcement agencies, including the Texas Department of Public Safety, collaborated in the search for Jones, which led to his arrest following a pursuit. He has been charged with two counts of capital murder and five counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Following his arrest, the Kickapoo Traditional Tribe of Texas Police Department announced that they planned to extradite Jones to the casino reservation.

In the aftermath of the attack, the Kickapoo Traditional Tribe of Texas expressed their sorrow in a public statement, acknowledging the community’s heartache over the violence. Maverick County Judge Ramsey English Cantú also commended the coordinated effort of local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies for their rapid response in securing the arrest and emphasized the community’s commitment to preventing such violence.

The circumstances surrounding the initial motive for the shooting remain unclear. Eyewitnesses reported a chaotic scene as guests attempted to flee the casino, creating an atmosphere of panic. Authorities are continuing to investigate the incident as they work to ensure safety and justice for the victims and their families.

This incident marks a significant event for the local community, raising concerns about public safety and the need for measures to prevent gun violence. Local officials reiterated their dedication to maintaining a secure environment for both residents and visitors to Maverick County, affirming their stance against any form of violence within the community.
