Two dead and one injured in suspected murder-suicide incident in New Haven.

In a tragic incident on Tuesday morning, a 41-year-old man from Connecticut, identified as Kerwin Romero, shot and killed his girlfriend’s friend and critically injured his girlfriend before taking his own life in New Haven. The police reported the incident occurred shortly before 2 a.m. at a residence on Congress Avenue. According to New Haven Police Chief Karl Jacobson, the deceased victim, Jennifer Adams, was 35 years old, while the injured female victim, whose identity has not been disclosed, is 38.

Emergency responders were alerted to the scene around 1:50 a.m. and discovered all three victims inside the home, where the children of the injured woman were also present. Fortunately, the children, who were unharmed, managed to call 911 in the aftermath of the gunfire. Authorities believe Romero and the girlfriend had been cohabitating with her two children in the residence.

Chief Jacobson elaborated on the events leading up to the incident, stating that a car fled the scene as police arrived. Officers were able to track it down, but instead of linking it to the shooting, they apprehended a juvenile found in possession of illegal drugs, which were unrelated to the murder-suicide.

Investigation into Romero’s background reveals a concerning history. He was subject to a restraining order stemming from a separate case in West Haven, where he had been accused of assaulting and threatening another woman in July 2025. Moreover, prior to this incident, Romero had a criminal record dating back to 2012, which included an assault charge linked to a shooting incident.

This latest tragedy in Connecticut is part of a broader pattern of domestic violence-related incidents in the state. Just last month, a similar case occurred in Hartford, where a 32-year-old man fatally shot his former partner before taking his own life. Earlier in the year, another instance involved a 56-year-old man who shot his elderly mother before also ending his life.

The frequency of such incidents raises significant concerns regarding domestic violence, mental health issues, and gun safety. The community is left grappling with the impact of this horrific act while local authorities continue their investigation into the situation. The developments underscore the urgent need for effective prevention measures and support systems for families affected by violence.
