Two men hospitalized after shooting incident in Brooklyn.
Two men were hospitalized early Saturday following a shooting incident at an intersection in Brooklyn, according to the police. The shooting occurred around 1:30 a.m. near the corner of East 95th Street and Lenox Road in the East Flatbush neighborhood. Responding to a 911 call reporting gunfire, law enforcement officials discovered a 19-year-old male suffering from a gunshot wound to the stomach. A 20-year-old man was also found at the scene with a graze wound to his left leg.
Emergency Medical Services transported both victims to Brookdale University Hospital, where they were reported to be in stable condition and expected to survive. However, law enforcement officials stated that neither victim provided information regarding the circumstances of the shooting and both have been characterized as uncooperative.
In the aftermath of the shooting, police launched a thorough investigation to identify any potential witnesses and to search for surveillance footage that might assist in locating the shooter. The area was canvassed as authorities sought to gather evidence that could lead to an arrest.
This incident adds to a troubling backdrop of recent gun violence in the region. Just two miles away, another shooting took place on Thursday night, resulting in the death of one man and injuries to another. That incident occurred on East 94th Street near Avenue L in Canarsie, where a gunman opened fire on a group of individuals. Surveillance footage obtained from the scene showed the suspect, wearing a black hoodie and blue medical gloves, approach the group before drawing a handgun from his waistband and firing approximately eight rounds.
The deceased victim, identified as 21-year-old Mitch Innocent of Elmont, Long Island, suffered a fatal gunshot wound to the head. The second victim from that incident is reported to be recovering. As of Saturday, the gunman involved in the Thursday shooting remained at large, and authorities indicated that there was no immediate link between the two shootings.
Despite these violent incidents, statistics from the New York City Police Department indicate that shootings in Patrol Borough Brooklyn South have decreased by 10% as of June 22, with reported incidents dropping from 47 to 42 compared to the same time last year. The police remain committed to addressing gun violence in Brooklyn as they continue their investigations into these recent events.
