Two Pennsylvania state troopers injured in shootout; suspect is deceased.
Two Pennsylvania state troopers were injured in a shootout on Wednesday evening while pursuing a suspect involved in a theft incident. This dramatic confrontation unfolded around 6 p.m. near Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, as the troopers responded to reports of stolen goods from a Dick’s Sporting Goods store.
Upon arrival, law enforcement officials noted that the suspects were fleeing in a van with Maryland license plates and heading toward Interstate 81. According to Pennsylvania State Police, a high-speed chase ensued, lasting until the vehicle encountered spike strips set more than 10 miles away near Greencastle. Following the deployment of these spike strips, two female suspects exited the vehicle and complied with police commands, leading to their arrest without incident.
However, a male suspect in the van began firing at the troopers, resulting in the injury of both officers. In response, the troopers returned fire, fatally wounding the gunman, identified as 31-year-old Lamar Lorenzo Foy in court documents. The wounded state troopers were quickly transported to Wellspan York Hospital for medical treatment. As of Thursday, one trooper was reported to be in serious condition, while the other had been treated and released earlier that day. The identities of both officers have not yet been disclosed.
The two arrested women, Amir Loren Swift and Giani Jaida McGowan, both 21 and from Baltimore, face charges related to retail theft and drug offenses. According to charging documents, the duo allegedly stole over ,000 worth of clothing from the Dick’s Sporting Goods store. A subsequent search of the van revealed THC, bags filled with powder, scales, and an undisclosed amount of cash. Both women are currently being held at the Franklin County Jail without bail, as confirmed by a jail supervisor.
Authorities indicated that the investigation into this troubling incident is ongoing. The events have raised concerns about public safety and the risks faced by law enforcement officers in the line of duty. The Pennsylvania State Police are expected to provide further updates as the investigation unfolds.
