Two siblings face court for attempting to steal engagement ring from former partner.

A Queens man and his sister have been charged in connection with an alleged attempted robbery involving an engagement ring valued at ,000. Carlos Lora Diaz, 38, and his sister, Lucie Lora, 34, were arraigned in Queens Criminal Court following an incident in which they allegedly assaulted Lora Diaz’s ex-fiancée during a dispute over the ring.

According to law enforcement officials, the incident occurred on April 24 when the siblings confronted the 34-year-old victim at her apartment in Jackson Heights. Authorities reported that tensions escalated as the group exchanged words while Lora Diaz sought the return of the engagement ring after recently ending his relationship with the victim.

The confrontation reportedly turned physical when Lora Diaz’s sister allegedly knocked the victim to the ground in an attempt to retrieve the ring from her finger. The victim sustained injuries, including bleeding, redness, and swelling to her hand, as well as significant pain in her hip, as stated by Queens Assistant District Attorney Isabelle Dudek during the court proceedings.

In the courtroom, Lora Diaz’s attorney, James Neville, expressed relief over the issuance of a restraining order against his client, suggesting that Lora Diaz welcomed the decision to remain disconnected from his ex-fiancée. Neville further remarked on the situation outside of court, highlighting that in his view, the decision not to marry was ultimately a positive outcome for Lora Diaz.

Despite the allegations, Lora Diaz’s counsel maintains that the situation was misunderstood, suggesting that while Lora Diaz aimed to reclaim the ring, he did not forcibly throw his ex-fiancée to the ground but rather made contact while she fell. Following the incident, Lora Diaz surrendered to law enforcement, while Lucie Lora was apprehended after police circulated a wanted poster showing her distinctive attire. In court, both individuals were granted release without bail, with Lora Diaz’s release contingent on supervised conditions.
