Unprovoked Harlem subway stabbing leaves commuter injured, according to prosecutors.

A violent stabbing incident occurred on Tuesday afternoon at the W. 125th Street subway station in Harlem, resulting in serious injuries to a 56-year-old man who was waiting on the uptown platform after leaving work. According to prosecutors, the attack was unprovoked and executed by 58-year-old Victor Solis from Inwood, who reportedly struck the victim from behind around 4 p.m.

As the victim reacted to the sudden assault, Solis brandished a large serrated knife and inflicted multiple stab wounds to the victim’s neck, shoulder, hand, torso, and other areas. The extent of the violence escalated when Solis reportedly climbed on top of the victim, continuing to stab him until a bystander intervened. The courageous individual managed to pull Solis off the victim and disarm him, thus preventing further injury.

Following his unsuccessful attempt to escape into the subway tunnel, Solis was detained by bystanders until police arrived and placed him under arrest. Witnesses describe a chaotic scene as the victim, bleeding profusely, managed to make his way to the mezzanine before collapsing near a turnstile. An MTA employee noted the severity of the situation, describing the scene as dire as the victim lay unconscious, covered in blood.

Emergency medical personnel promptly transported the victim to Mount Sinai Morningside Hospital, where he underwent emergency surgery. Medical officials have since reported that he is now in stable condition.

Upon arrest, detectives discovered a bloodstained knife in Solis’ possession, which has been referenced in the criminal complaint filed against him. He faces serious charges, including attempted murder, assault, and possession of a weapon for unlawful purposes. Notably, Solis does not have a prior criminal record. However, given the random and alarming nature of the attack, and his attempt to flee, prosecutors have requested that he be held without bail.

Bail for Solis was set at 0,000 during the court arraignment. He is scheduled to return to court on July 7. This distressing incident has raised concerns about safety in public transportation and the need for effective measures to ensure the well-being of commuters. The community remains on alert as officials continue to investigate this brutal attack.
