Weezer bassist Scott Shriner’s wife shot by police, faces attempted murder charges.
In a troubling incident in Los Angeles, law enforcement officials confirmed that Jillian Lauren, the wife of Weezer bass player Scott Shriner, was shot by police on Tuesday afternoon. Following the shooting, she was arrested and charged with attempted murder. The events unfolded around 3:25 p.m. when the California Highway Patrol requested assistance from the Los Angeles Police Department to pursue three suspects involved in a hit-and-run incident. The suspects had fled on foot into the Eagle Rock residential neighborhood.
The police pursuit led officers to a backyard where one of the suspects had been seen. During the search, Lauren emerged from her neighboring residence, reportedly armed with a handgun. Authorities stated that officers commanded her to relinquish the weapon multiple times, yet she allegedly refused. Furthermore, she was accused of pointing the gun at the officers, which prompted at least one officer to discharge their weapon, striking her in the shoulder.
According to reports, Lauren retreated into her home after being shot and reappeared approximately half an hour later with her hands raised, accompanied by her babysitter. She was taken into custody and transported to a local hospital where she received treatment for a non-life-threatening injury. After her release from the hospital, she was officially booked for attempted murder.
Remarkably, no police officers or other neighborhood residents sustained injuries during the incident, and it remains unclear whether Lauren discharged her firearm during the confrontation. Post-incident, Lauren allegedly informed law enforcement that she was acting in self-defense, claiming she perceived an imminent threat as the fleeing suspects attempted to breach her home. Authorities confirmed that she was not connected to the hit-and-run incident.
Lauren and Shriner, who have been married since 2005, share two sons and reside in the Eagle Rock area. As of Wednesday evening, neither Lauren nor Shriner had issued any public statements regarding the incident, which has drawn significant media attention and sparked discussions about safety and self-defense laws in residential neighborhoods.
This peculiar case underscores the complexities of law enforcement encounters, particularly in high-stress situations involving firearms. As investigations continue, both the legal proceedings against Lauren and any potential implications for police protocols are anticipated by the public and legal experts alike.
