Weezer bassist’s wife escapes jail time after brandishing a gun at Los Angeles police officers.

Best-selling author Jillian Lauren, who is married to Weezer bassist Scott Shriner, has been granted a reprieve from incarceration following an incident in which she allegedly brandished a firearm at Los Angeles police officers. Instead of facing jail time, Lauren has been placed in a two-year mental health diversion program, which mandates her participation in regular counseling sessions and random drug and alcohol testing. Additionally, she is prohibited from possessing any firearms during this period.

Should Lauren successfully complete the diversion program, a judge is expected to dismiss the felony charges against her, which include willful discharge of a firearm in a grossly negligent manner and assault with a semiautomatic firearm. The incident that precipitated these charges occurred on April 8, 2025, as the California Highway Patrol was conducting a search in Lauren’s Eagle Rock neighborhood for three suspects involved in a hit-and-run accident.

As officers pursued the suspects, they believed the individuals might have concealed themselves in nearby yards. The situation escalated when Lauren, 51, appeared in her neighbor’s backyard holding a weapon. Reports indicate that police ordered her to drop the handgun multiple times; however, she allegedly refused to comply and pointed the firearm in their direction. This action prompted at least one officer to discharge their weapon, resulting in Lauren sustaining a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to her shoulder.

After the altercation, Lauren retreated into her home but later emerged approximately thirty minutes later alongside her babysitter, raising her hands in surrender. She was subsequently taken into custody and transported to a hospital for treatment.

Lauren, who has built a successful writing career, previously entered a not guilty plea in response to the charges against her.
