West Philadelphia and North Philadelphia showcase talent together at this year’s BET Awards.
Kevin Hart, the acclaimed comedian and North Philadelphia native, is set to return as the host of the 2025 BET Awards, marking his first appearance in this role since 2011. The event will take place at the Peacock Theater on June 9, and Hart announced his hosting role in a promotional trailer earlier in April. Known for his energetic performances and sharp humor, Hart has built a successful career in comedy, film, and television, earning numerous accolades, including the prestigious Mark Twain Prize.
Joining Hart in celebrating cultural excellence is another Philadelphia native, Quinta Brunson, who will appear as a presenter at the awards show. Brunson has garnered significant recognition for her work, including an Emmy Award. Additionally, she recently received a key to the city of Philadelphia and has been nominated for the BET Best Actress Award this year, reflecting her rising star status in the entertainment industry.
The BET Awards, often regarded as one of the most significant nights in Black culture, will feature a star-studded lineup, including musical acts such as Lil Wayne, Teyana Taylor, GloRilla, Playboi Carti, and Leon Thomas, among others. The event is known for its dynamic performances and recognition of outstanding talent across various artistic disciplines. This year, it promises to showcase an array of celebrities, including Tyler Perry, DC YoungFly, Busta Rhymes, and Ciara, along with Brunson’s co-star from “Abbott Elementary,” Tyler James Williams, ensuring a vibrant atmosphere.
Kendrick Lamar leads the nominations this year with ten total nods, including a nomination for Album of the Year for his latest work, “GNX.” Following him closely are Drake, Future, GloRilla, and the Grammy-winning newcomer Doechii, each securing six nominations apiece. This competitive field emphasizes the evolving landscape of contemporary music and the prominence of these artists within it.
The event will also honor legends of the entertainment industry with the Ultimate Icon Award, recipients of which include Mariah Carey, Jamie Foxx, Snoop Dogg, and gospel music titan Kirk Franklin.
