In a shocking incident that unfolded in SoHo on Monday afternoon, a 25-year-old woman was critically injured after being stabbed in the neck with a broken bottle in what police described as an unprovoked attack. The assault occurred around 3 p.m. at the intersection of Broome and Wooster Streets, compelling law enforcement to respond swiftly to the scene.

According to police reports, the attack began when a 45-year-old male suspect approached another woman walking in the area. In a startling turn of events, he threw a green designer water bottle at her, which struck her back and shattered. The first victim, unharmed, fled the scene. However, the assailant proceeded east on Broome Street, where he encountered the second victim and inflicted serious injuries by slashing her throat with the broken bottle.

Witnesses described a frantic scene. A nearby security guard, alerted by the victim’s screams, rushed to her aid. He applied pressure to her neck to staunch the bleeding, as other bystanders also stepped in to help. Medical personnel arrived promptly, and the victim was transported to Bellevue Hospital, where she was admitted in critical condition and underwent surgery. Police Chief Jim McCarthy stated that while the victim was conscious and alert upon arrival at the hospital, she had lost a significant amount of blood.

The assailant, who was reportedly wearing an NYPD hoodie and appeared emotionally distraught, managed to flee but was apprehended by police approximately five blocks away from the scene. When officers detained him, he provided them with a false name.
