A judge has ruled that Amanda Kempton, a 32-year-old woman from Fairfax, Virginia, will remain incarcerated on a 0,000 cash bond following an indictment linked to a fatal hit-and-run incident involving former Netflix star Sara Burack in June. The decision was made during a court appearance on Monday, where Kempton faced one felony charge of leaving the scene of an accident that resulted in death, as announced by the Suffolk County District Attorney’s office.

Sara Burack, aged 40, was a prominent luxury real estate agent, known for her appearances on the Netflix show “Million Dollar Beach House.” On June 19, she was struck by Kempton’s vehicle—a 2004 Toyota Highlander—while walking along West Montauk Highway in Hampton Bays around 2:26 a.m. According to the district attorney’s office, Burack was discovered lying unconscious on the roadside by a passing motorist shortly thereafter. First responders transported her to Stony Brook University Hospital, where she was treated for severe injuries that included trauma to her head, brain, and liver, along with a broken leg. Despite being placed on life support, Burack succumbed to her injuries that same afternoon.
Investigators from the Southampton Town Police Department subsequently identified Kempton’s vehicle, which bore front-end damage consistent with the incident. She was arrested on June 20. In her defense, Kempton pleaded not guilty, claiming that she mistakenly believed she had collided with a traffic cone rather than a pedestrian. However, evidence presented by the district attorney’s office suggested otherwise. Notably, Burack had been carrying a pink-wheeled suitcase at the time of the accident, which allegedly became lodged beneath Kempton’s vehicle. It is reported that after attempting to retrieve the suitcase, Kempton drove away with it still attached, ultimately discarding it in a local dumpster upon reaching her destination.
If found guilty, Kempton faces the possibility of up to seven years in prison. Her next court appearance is scheduled for November 20, as the case continues to develop.
