Woman injured in shooting at Broad Street Line SEPTA station
On Tuesday afternoon, a shooting incident occurred at the Cecil B. Moore station on the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority’s (SEPTA) Broad Street Line in North Philadelphia, resulting in the hospitalization of a 17-year-old girl. The shooting took place around 1 p.m. on the northbound side of the platform, situated outside the payment turnstiles, as confirmed by a SEPTA spokesperson.
The victim sustained a gunshot wound to her right leg and was promptly transported to Temple University Hospital. Authorities reported that she was in stable condition following the incident, alleviating immediate concerns about her well-being.
In the wake of the shooting, SEPTA suspended northbound train service at the Cecil B. Moore stop while law enforcement conducted their investigation. Normal train operations resumed shortly before 3 p.m., albeit with the potential for residual delays as noted in SEPTA’s communications on social media platforms.
Preliminary investigations into the incident revealed that the shooting appeared to be linked to an argument between two men, as suggested by an initial review of surveillance footage. Following the altercation, one of the men discharged a firearm, leading to the unintentional injury of the teenage girl. However, the specific circumstances that led to the escalation of this argument remain unclear at this time.
SEPTA is cooperating with the Philadelphia Police Department, which is spearheading the investigation. The police have confirmed the recovery of three fired 9mm cartridge casings from the scene and are actively pursuing information to identify and locate the shooter.
Authorities are urging anyone with potential leads or relevant information concerning the shooting to come forward. Individuals can reach out to the Shooting Investigation Group at 215-686-8270 or submit anonymous tips via call or text to 215-686-TIPS.
