Writing Workshop “Telling Your Story: Vignettes and Reflections” Scheduled in Solana Beach
Media News Source reports that the Solana Beach Community Connections (SBCC) will be hosting a Writing Workshop aimed at encouraging individuals to document their life experiences. This workshop is particularly well-suited for those urged by family and friends to articulate their personal stories, thereby creating a tangible legacy of memories that fosters social connections and enriches community engagement.
The workshop comprises a series of four sessions, each lasting two hours, that will be held in a supportive environment conducive to written expression. Scheduled for Fridays—specifically May 2, May 9, and May 16—and a Thursday session on May 22, these meetings will take place from 10 a.m. to 12 noon at the Main Hall of La Colonia Park Community Center, located at 715 Valley Avenue in Solana Beach. This initiative aligns with SBCC’s ongoing mission to enhance community involvement among mature adults in the area.
Now entering its fourth iteration, the writing workshop has garnered a positive reputation for its interactive format and effective leadership. According to testimonials from previous participants, the workshop is praised for its inviting atmosphere and the quality of instruction provided.
Eberly Barnes, who oversees a writing program for undergraduates at the University of California, San Diego, will serve as the workshop facilitator. Barnes possesses extensive experience in various writing domains, including her roles as a speechwriter, freelance editor, and published author. Her diverse background enhances the educational quality of the sessions, promising a rich experience for participants.
Enrollment for the workshop is limited to the first 15 individuals who register, emphasizing a first-come, first-served system. Those who miss the initial cutoff will be placed on a waiting list. Participants are encouraged to attend at least three of the four sessions to maximize their engagement in the program. Each session will provide prompts for writing topics, allowing participants to share their reflections and engage in discussion with fellow attendees and the instructor.
To register, interested individuals can text 858-284-6619 or leave a voicemail, ensuring to include their name, phone number, and email address along with a note specifying interest in the May Writing Workshop. While no payment is required for participation, donations are encouraged to help sustain the program.
