Young woman dies in North Jersey car crash, five others injured.

A tragic multi-vehicle accident early Saturday on Interstate 78 in Hillside Township, New Jersey, resulted in the death of a 21-year-old woman and injuries to five others, including an 11-year-old girl. The incident, which unfolded shortly after 2 a.m., involved four vehicles and has drawn the attention of state police as they continue their investigation into the factors contributing to the crash.

The deceased was identified as Genna Spina, a resident of Danville, who was ejected from her vehicle during the collision. According to reports from local media, the series of events began when 29-year-old Brandon Babb attempted to change lanes while driving westbound on the highway. In the process, he collided with a Toyota SUV operated by 37-year-old Vanessa Jonas. The initial impact caused Babb’s Honda SUV to lose control and spin out, ultimately facing the wrong direction in the middle of the highway.

The situation escalated when Dayle Danchak, 24, who was driving a Ford with Spina as a passenger, struck the disabled Honda. The collision caused the Ford to overturn and come to rest in the express lanes of the highway, where it was subsequently struck by a Chevrolet driven by 39-year-old Derek Feltenberger. Reports indicate that the occupants of the Chevrolet included the young girl and 59-year-old Sondra Williams, both of whom sustained minor injuries.

After the crash, Danchak suffered serious injuries, while Jonas and Feltenberger were reported to have moderate injuries. Notably, Babb, whose lane change initiated the sequence of events, escaped unscathed. Authorities are examining the details surrounding the incident as part of their ongoing investigation, which is likely to involve evaluating potential factors such as speed, driver attentiveness, and road conditions at the time of the accident.

The incident significantly impacted traffic on Interstate 78, causing delays that lasted several hours as authorities conducted their investigation and cleared the scene. As the community grapples with the tragic loss of Spina, the safety of interstate travel continues to be a crucial concern for both officials and motorists alike. The New Jersey state police are encouraging any witnesses to come forward to assist in the ongoing inquiry into this fatal accident.
