Nigeria has intensified its efforts to combat online scams, recently deporting 102 foreign nationals, including 60 from China and 39 from the Philippines, who were implicated in cyber-terrorism and internet fraud. In recent months, the EFCC has ramped up its operations, culminating in the arrest of nearly 800 suspected cybercriminals during a significant crackdown in Lagos’ upscale Victoria Island district in December. The deported individuals represent just a fraction of the 792 arrests made, with a notable 192 being foreign nationals. The agency noted that a substantial number of these suspects were Chinese nationals, emphasizing the international dimensions of this issue.
