New Jersey man wanted for killing his grandfather has been arrested on Villanova University campus.

A 26-year-old man from South Jersey was apprehended on Wednesday on the campus of Villanova University, located just outside Philadelphia, in connection with the murder of his grandfather. Authorities identified the suspect as Shawn Moir, who was taken into custody while sitting in a stolen vehicle parked in the university’s parking lot, according to a press release from the U.S. Marshals Service.

Shawn Moir is allegedly responsible for the death of his grandfather, 59-year-old Albert Moir, who was found stabbed to death in their Vineland, New Jersey home on Tuesday evening. Upon discovery of the crime, local law enforcement agencies launched an immediate manhunt for Shawn Moir, who reportedly fled the scene after committing the crime.

Investigators indicated that Moir had stolen his grandfather’s Chevrolet Tahoe and traveled approximately 50 miles north to Villanova. The vehicle was spotted in a parking garage on the university campus around 1 p.m. on Wednesday. Authorities conducted the arrest without incident.

U.S. Marshal Robert Clark detailed that Shawn Moir had likely been in the parking garage for over ten hours prior to his arrest. After apprehending Moir, law enforcement officials inquired how he arrived at the site. Moir allegedly stated that he had driven around, refueled the vehicle, and ultimately chose to park in the garage where he was found.

The incident adds to a series of recent law enforcement activities at Villanova University. Just days prior, on August 21, the campus experienced a significant scare when an active shooter was reported; however, that situation was later determined to be a hoax.

Officials expressed their relief regarding the safe capture of Shawn Moir, considering the heightened activity surrounding the university. The U.S. Marshals underscored their commitment to maintaining safety and security on college campuses while effectively managing potential threats without alarming students.
