NYC Council proposes bill to enhance emergency training and pay for security guards following recent Park Avenue shooting incident.

City Council Speaker Adrienne Adams is set to introduce a significant piece of legislation this week aimed at enhancing protections for security guards in New York City. This initiative, known as the “Aland Etienne Safety and Security Act,” comes in the aftermath of a tragic mass shooting this summer on Park Avenue, which resulted in the deaths of four individuals, including Aland Etienne, a 45-year-old security guard at a Midtown skyscraper. The proposed bill seeks to require private security personnel to receive active-shooter training and to earn higher wages, addressing long-standing issues of safety and fair compensation for these front-line workers.
