Two seniors killed in separate hit-and-run crashes within hours on Friday, according to police reports.

In a tragic sequence of events on Friday night, a 72-year-old woman was fatally struck by a vehicle in Northeast Philadelphia. This incident occurred just hours after another hit-and-run crash claimed the life of a 77-year-old woman in the Overbrook neighborhood, underscoring a concerning trend of pedestrian safety risks in the city.

The first collision transpired around 7:32 p.m. on the 3500 block of Ryan Avenue, as a 2004 Dodge Ram was traveling eastbound. Authorities report that the driver hit the elderly woman while she was in the process of crossing the street and subsequently fled the scene. Emergency responders promptly transported the victim to Jefferson Torresdale Hospital, but tragically, she succumbed to her injuries the following morning at approximately 6:00 a.m.

In the aftermath of the collision, police located the abandoned Dodge Ram in the Mayfair area, roughly two miles from the scene of the accident. Law enforcement officials apprehended the driver, who exhibited signs of intoxication, and he faces subsequent charges related to driving under the influence. Earlier that same evening, at approximately 5:20 p.m., a separate hit-and-run incident unfolded on the opposite side of Philadelphia. A 77-year-old woman was struck while crossing near the intersection of 54th Street and Lancaster Avenue. In this case, the driver of a black Infiniti reversed down Lancaster Avenue after hitting the victim before fleeing southbound. The victim was rushed to Lankenau Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead shortly after arrival at 5:52 p.m.

Authorities have yet to apprehend the driver responsible for the Overbrook incident. Reports indicate that after fleeing, the suspect dropped off a female passenger at a nearby pizza establishment on Girard Avenue. The Infiniti involved in this crash was noted to have sustained front-end damage and bore a Delaware paper tag.
