Second victim dies in shooting at Dallas ICE detention center.

Miguel Angel Garcia-Hernandez, a detainee critically injured in a shooting at an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility in Dallas on September 24, has succumbed to his injuries, according to his family. His death was confirmed by the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC), which reported that the 32-year-old succumbed after being taken off life support. An ICE spokesperson noted that Garcia-Hernandez passed away at 12:48 a.m. CT on Monday.

Garcia-Hernandez was described as a devoted family man by his wife, Stephany Gauffeny, who lamented the loss of her husband in a statement issued by LULAC. She reflected on their recent milestone of purchasing their first home and highlighted his dedication to providing for their four children, with another child on the way. Gauffeny expressed her anguish over the tragedy, stating that it has left their family in disarray and that she struggles to explain the void left by his absence to their children.

Originally from Mexico, Garcia-Hernandez was one of three detainees shot during the incident at the Dallas ICE facility. The assailant, identified as 29-year-old Joshua Jahn, reportedly positioned himself on a nearby rooftop and opened fire. In addition to Garcia-Hernandez, a 37-year-old detainee from El Salvador, Norlan Guzmán-Fuentes, was also killed in the shooting. A third individual, Jose Andres Bordones-Molina from Venezuela, sustained injuries during the attack, although his current condition remains unclear.

Miraculously, no ICE staff were harmed during the incident. Authorities have indicated that Jahn’s actions stemmed from his anti-government sentiments and that he intended to create chaos by targeting federal agents. Following the shooting, Jahn was found deceased from a self-inflicted gunshot wound at the scene.

This tragic event has sparked deep concerns about safety at government facilities and has ignited discussions regarding immigration, detention policies, and the broader implications of gun violence. Garcia-Hernandez’s passing not only represents a profound loss for his family but also highlights the urgent need for addressing the factors contributing to such violent incidents. As the investigation continues, community leaders and advocates are calling for comprehensive reforms to ensure the protection of all individuals within custody.
