Jersey City teenager facing trial as adult for shooting that resulted in a girl’s death and injured a woman.
A New Jersey teenager, Willie Shuler, now 17, is set to face trial as an adult for the alleged murder of a 15-year-old girl and the wounding of a 37-year-old woman in a shooting incident earlier this year. The charges stem from a tragic event that occurred on January 18, when Shuler is accused of firing multiple shots into a vehicle, resulting in the death of Cianna Lee and injuring a female relative of Lee.
Initially arrested on January 23, 2025, Shuler was charged as a juvenile for his purported involvement in the double shooting. However, recent developments in the case have led to a decision by Acting Hudson County Prosecutor Wayne Mello to transfer Shuler to adult court. This shift highlights the serious nature of the charges against him, which include murder, attempted murder, and various weapons offenses.
The incident took place late at night on Martin Luther King Drive and Union Street. Following the shooting, police discovered both victims inside a vehicle on Oak Street. Emergency responders transported them to Jersey City Medical Center, where Cianna Lee was pronounced dead approximately two hours later. The surviving victim sustained a non-fatal gunshot wound to her back and has since received medical treatment.
Reports indicate that Shuler, who did not know Lee personally, fired about nine rounds into the vehicle before fleeing the scene. Evidence collected from a surveillance camera in the area reportedly captured an individual firing into the car, with two witnesses later identifying Shuler in the footage. Such corroboration plays a pivotal role in the prosecution’s case as they prepare for the upcoming trial.
