Brooklyn man crashes into Long Island police car while drunk and attempts to bribe officers, according to police.

A 50-year-old Brooklyn resident was charged with a series of offenses, including driving while intoxicated and bribery, following a crash involving a Nassau County police vehicle. The incident occurred early Monday morning in East Hills, approximately 25 miles northeast of his residence in Bath Beach.

Authorities report that Chi Hung Leung collided with a police vehicle just before 6 a.m. while driving under the influence. In an attempt to evade the situation, Leung initially tried to flee the scene in his vehicle. After abandoning his car, he attempted to escape on foot. However, law enforcement officers quickly apprehended him nearby.

Upon their arrival, investigators determined that Leung was intoxicated at the time of the accident. He was subsequently transported to a local hospital for treatment of injuries sustained during the incident. According to a statement from the Nassau County police, during the course of the arrest, Leung allegedly attempted to offer multiple officers money in exchange for his release, which constitutes an act of bribery.

The crash took place on the Long Island Expressway near exit 38, with Nassau County highway patrol officers responding to an unrelated emergency call at the time of the incident. The officer whose vehicle Leung struck also sustained injuries and was taken to the hospital, where they are expected to make a full recovery.

Following the accident, law enforcement took prompt action, and Leung now faces several charges. These include driving while intoxicated, leaving the scene of an accident, three counts of second-degree bribery, and two counts related to fleeing from law enforcement. His arraignment was set for Tuesday, where further legal proceedings will unfold.

The disturbing nature of the incident highlights ongoing concerns regarding impaired driving and accountability for actions taken while under the influence. Law enforcement agencies continue to emphasize the importance of road safety and the severe legal repercussions that accompany such reckless behavior. As the case progresses, the local community remains attentive to the developments surrounding this serious situation.
