59-year-old woman arrested for allegedly murdering Bronx man with three gunshots to the head.
A 59-year-old woman has been arrested in connection with the murder of a young man in the Bronx, as announced by law enforcement officials on Tuesday. Denise Aponte has been charged with murder, manslaughter, and possession of a firearm following the shooting of 24-year-old Randy Blanche. This incident transpired on Sunday evening, and Aponte was taken into custody the subsequent day.
Initially, investigators suspected a potential domestic relationship between the suspect and the victim. However, a spokesperson for the New York Police Department later clarified that Aponte did not know Blanche prior to the incident. According to police reports, the shooting occurred outside the Sedgwick Houses, a public housing development located near the suspect’s residence. Witnesses reported that Aponte allegedly shot Blanche three times in the head at approximately 8 p.m. on Sunday, November 23, 2025.
Emergency medical services swiftly transported Blanche from the scene at the intersection of West 174th Street and Popham Avenue in the Morris Heights neighborhood to BronxCare Health System. Unfortunately, despite their efforts, he succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival. It has been reported that at the time of the incident, Blanche was just over a mile from his home.
The police are continuing their investigation into the incident, which has raised significant concern within the community regarding gun violence. The shooting has reminded local residents of the ongoing issues related to firearm accessibility and street violence in urban areas. The case will likely contribute to renewed discussions about public safety measures and the need for community intervention programs in the Bronx and similar neighborhoods across New York City.
As the legal process unfolds, Aponte faces serious charges that could result in significant prison time if convicted. Residents remain on edge as authorities work to ensure justice is served, with hopes that such acts of violence will diminish in their neighborhoods. Community members are encouraged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to local law enforcement as they seek to enhance safety in the area.
