Four Arrested in Newark Shooting That Left Three Dead, Including a 10-Year-Old Boy

In a significant development following a tragic mass shooting in Newark, New Jersey, four individuals have been arrested and charged with serious crimes, including first-degree murder. The shootings, which occurred on November 15, claimed the lives of three individuals, including a 10-year-old boy, Jordan Garcia. The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office reported the details of the case on Thursday.

The suspects, identified as Almuta Thomas, 31; Quayon Williams-King, 26; Furquan Boykin Jr., 19; and a 16-year-old male, are all facing charges related to the shooting that occurred around 7 p.m. at the intersection of Leslie Street and Chancellor Avenue. In addition to the murder charges, the suspects are charged with two counts of aggravated assault related to injuries sustained by Sheppard Miller, 60, and Garcia’s 11-year-old brother, Jayceon. Fortunately, both injured victims have since been released from medical care.

Authorities have revealed that the suspects were connected to a stolen vehicle that was used during the incident and subsequently set ablaze. They were identified through surveillance footage that captured them fleeing the scene in another vehicle. The police efforts led to a significant breakthrough just days after the shooting when they managed to stop a second vehicle linked to the suspects following a brief pursuit. This operation resulted in the arrest of Williams-King, while another occupant of the vehicle was taken into custody but was not connected to the shooting itself.

The investigation suggests that Boykin and the 16-year-old were the ones who opened fire, but all four individuals allegedly planned the attack, which appeared to specifically target one of the victims. While a motive is still being investigated, early indications suggest a possible connection to an earlier robbery. The arrests have highlighted the collaborative law enforcement effort to ensure public safety and accountability in violent incidents.

Additionally, Thomas and Williams-King face separate charges concerning arson and theft of the vehicle utilized in the crime. With the shootings drawing significant public attention, authorities are committed to uncovering the full narrative behind the tragic event and ensuring justice for the victims and their families. The ongoing investigation and legal proceedings will likely remain a focal point within Newark and surrounding communities as they grapple with the ramifications of such violence.

As the case unfolds, local residents and officials are calling for increased safety measures, hoping to prevent such tragedies in the future.
