Santos Vasquez Ramirez, a 28-year-old resident of Pawling, New York, has been arrested in connection with the murder. Putnam County Sheriff Brian Hess announced the arrest during a press conference held on Monday. Law enforcement utilized surveillance footage, DNA evidence, and cooperation from various agencies to identify and apprehend Ramirez.

Orbez was last seen alive on December 1, when he picked up a customer at the Metro-North Railroad’s Brewster station in New York. His black Toyota Sienna minivan was located two days later, abandoned in Westchester. The discovery of Orbez’s body on December 7 by a fisherman has heightened public concern regarding safety in the taxi industry.

Ramirez has been charged with second-degree murder and first-degree robbery, and his arraignment took place on Saturday, coinciding with Orbez’s funeral. The suspect remains in custody, with a court appearance scheduled for December 18, as the investigation continues.
