Three individuals arrested in Bucks County for stealing GLP-1 weight loss drugs from a pharmacy.
In a troubling incident that unfolded in Bensalem Township, Pennsylvania, police have apprehended three individuals, including a 17-year-old boy, in connection with the assault of a delivery driver and the theft of approximately ,000 worth of weight loss medications. The robbery occurred outside of the Smart Choice Pharmacy located at 1941 Street Road, according to local law enforcement efforts from Bensalem Township Police.
On a Wednesday afternoon, the delivery driver was in the process of delivering two boxes containing GLP-1 weight loss drugs known as Mounjaro, Ozempic, and Trulicity when the incident occurred. Officers described this act as a “strong-arm robbery” in their official report following the event. Witnesses noted that the suspects, who fled the scene in a gold Toyota, almost collided with a bystander who had been filming the confrontation.
Upon receiving a 911 call regarding the vehicle’s whereabouts, Bensalem Township Police swiftly tracked down and intercepted the car just blocks from the scene of the crime. Inside the vehicle, officers discovered the stolen boxes of medication and proceeded to apprehend three suspects: 41-year-old Joshua Dupree from Tamaqua, Schuylkill County; 21-year-old Jahnoi Dawkins from Albany, New York; and a 17-year-old male from New York City.
Further investigation revealed that the suspects had made the journey from New York specifically to carry out the robbery. The pharmacy staff had reported receiving unusual phone calls and emails in the lead-up to the delivery, inquiring about the specifics of the order, raising red flags that potentially indicated premeditation.
All three individuals have been charged with multiple offenses, including robbery, theft, receiving stolen property, and simple assault. The conditions of their bail were set by Magisterial District Judge Michael Gallagher, at 10% of 0,000 for Dupree and 0,000 for Dawkins. They have subsequently been taken to the Bucks County Correctional Facility, while the juvenile was placed in the Bucks County Youth Detention Center. This incident highlights ongoing concerns regarding drug-related thefts and the safety of delivery personnel in the region.
As investigations continue, local law enforcement has underscored the importance of community vigilance and reporting suspicious activity, particularly regarding the potential targeting of pharmacies and their deliveries.
