17-year-old arrested in Bronx triple shooting that left one teenager dead.
A 17-year-old male apprehended on Saturday afternoon is facing serious charges in relation to a tragic triple shooting in the Bronx that claimed the life of 16-year-old Christopher Redding. Law enforcement officials confirmed that the teenager was charged with murder, attempted murder, manslaughter, and criminal possession of a weapon following his alleged involvement in the shooting incident, which occurred on Wednesday.
Christopher Redding was fatally shot in the back shortly after 5 p.m. outside the Bronx Alehouse located on West 238th Street near Putnam Avenue in Kingsbridge. In addition to Redding, two other minors—a 15-year-old boy and a 13-year-old girl—were injured in the attack, sustaining gunshot wounds to their right legs but are expected to survive their injuries. All three victims were transported to St. Barnabas Hospital, where Redding was pronounced dead.
The bereaved father, Bryan Corley, expressed his devastation over the loss of his son, citing the incident as surreal and wishing for Redding’s return. Corley maintains that his son was merely an innocent bystander returning home from school and had no involvement in any illicit activities. He lamented that Redding had been in “the wrong place at the wrong time,” referring to the event as a real tragedy that has irrevocably altered many lives.
Investigators believe that the shooting was gang-related, despite Redding’s clean record. The incident reportedly stemmed from an argument that took place earlier in the day at a nearby McDonald’s on Broadway, which escalated into violence when a group of individuals attacked a teenage girl. Detectives are actively pursuing three additional suspects—a man and a woman—connected to the incident, and have released surveillance photos in hopes of gathering more information from the public.
As the community mourns the loss of a promising young athlete—Redding was a freshman at Kennedy High School and a standout player on the varsity football team—detectives continue their investigation. The teenager charged in the case has yet to be identified due to his minor status, and his arraignment is expected to take place in Bronx Criminal Court.
Authorities are urging anyone with information about the case to contact Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS, assuring that all calls will be kept confidential. The ongoing investigation highlights the urgent need for community engagement in addressing youth violence and the implications it carries for families and neighborhoods alike.
