Philadelphia Jewish Film and Media program will officially merge with the Weitzman Museum.

The Weitzman National Museum of American Jewish History, a prominent cultural institution in Philadelphia, has announced a significant development in its partnership with Philadelphia Jewish Film and Media (PJFM). After years of collaboration, the two organizations will now formally integrate their operations, solidifying their joint commitment to enriching the Jewish cultural landscape in the region.

This integration comes after years of close association. The Weitzman Museum has hosted PJFM events, including its annual fall film festival, and PJFM has operated from the Weitzman building for the past four years. Dan Tadmor, the president and CEO of the Weitzman, emphasized that this evolution represents a natural progression in their partnership, creating what he describes as a harmonious synergy between the two entities.

As part of this new arrangement, PJFM will maintain its branding and identity within the broader framework of the museum. Kristen Arter, PJFM’s executive director, will take on the role of major gifts officer for arts and culture at the Weitzman, while Beth Becker, formerly responsible for program logistics and operations at PJFM, will now serve as programming manager for public programs at the museum.

The integration is designed to enhance both organizations’ offerings, with Arter expressing confidence that this step will provide a solid foundation for their ongoing work. She noted that PJFM has consistently evolved to meet community needs while remaining true to its mission. The collaboration is expected to offer new growth opportunities, reinforcing the festival’s reputation, which is not only the oldest Jewish film festival in Philadelphia but also the second oldest in the nation.

Plans for the upcoming 46th annual Jewish film festival remain intact, with the festival set to occur in November. PJFM’s programming slate will also include other events throughout the year. The strategic merger is anticipated to elevate the visibility of the festival on both regional and national levels, leveraging the marketing and resource capabilities of the Weitzman.

Additionally, PJFM is set to introduce a new series titled “Docs and Dialogues,” featuring documentary screenings and discussions scheduled for May, which coincides with Jewish American Heritage Month. This series reflects the organization’s dedication to diversifying its programming beyond films while maintaining engagement with its core audience.

The integration of PJFM into the Weitzman symbolizes a broader commitment to cultural resilience and innovation, aiming to amplify the impact of both organizations in the community. With increased resources and collaborative expertise, supporters hope to foster an even more dynamic cultural scene that celebrates Jewish history and creativity.
