Man charged with raping and assaulting 25-year-old woman in Queens park; held without bail.
A 31-year-old man, Oscar Vallejo, has been charged following a violent assault on a 25-year-old woman in Queens, New York. Described as a repeat offender with a history of sexual offenses, Vallejo faces charges including rape, kidnapping, sexual abuse, and assault. During an arraignment held on Saturday, he was ordered to be held without bail. The incident occurred on May 30 at approximately 9 p.m. near Union Field Cemetery.
According to police reports and court documents, Vallejo approached the victim while riding a scooter. He allegedly threatened her as she walked to her workplace on Cyprus Avenue, demanding that she get on the scooter with him. The suspect purportedly told her that failure to comply would result in harm: “Get on. I’ll hurt you if you don’t get on. There is a car that will take you and hurt you.”
Vallejo then transported the victim to Highland Park, where she attempted to escape. However, he violently restrained her, throwing her to the ground and causing her to hit her head. The attack escalated when he brandished a bottle and threatened to kill her before sexually assaulting her. Law enforcement officials reported that Vallejo physically assaulted the woman throughout the encounter, which lasted several hours as per police sources, although the victim could not specify how long it lasted.
Following the assault, the victim was taken to Brookdale Hospital, where she received treatment for injuries consistent with sexual assault. Vallejo was arrested on June 8 and is currently held in custody. His lengthy criminal history is alarming, as he has six prior arrests, including multiple charges of attempted rape and sexual abuse.
This recent incident is not isolated. Vallejo was previously arrested on July 7, 2023, for attacking a 21-year-old woman in Brooklyn, just over a mile from where the latest incident occurred. In that case, he also allegedly threatened the victim and attempted to remove her skirt while following her on his scooter.
Authorities have released a mugshot of Vallejo in hopes that other victims may come forward. Anyone with information or who may have been affected by Vallejo is encouraged to contact the NYPD’s Sex Crimes Hotline at (212) 267-7273 or reach out to Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS. The case underscores ongoing concerns regarding public safety and the need for vigilance regarding repeat offenders in communities.
Vallejo’s next court appearance is scheduled for June 17. The legal system will now determine how to address the allegations against him and ensure justice for the victims involved.
