U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio recently held talks with Libyan National Army (LNA) Deputy Commander Saddam Haftar, highlighting Washington’s increasing engagement in resolving Libya’s long-standing political crisis. The LNA, which governs eastern Libya and is vying for supremacy against the internationally recognized authorities in Tripoli, has become a focal point of U.S. diplomatic efforts aimed at fostering stability in the region.
According to a statement released by the U.S. State Department, the discussions centered on ongoing Libyan-led initiatives to create unified military, economic, and political structures. Rubio expressed gratitude for the dedication of Libyan leaders to overcome divisions, fostering an atmosphere of cooperation aimed at achieving peace and unity in Libya. “The United States will remain at the forefront of diplomatic efforts to support Libyan unity and create the conditions for a democratically elected government able to lead Libya forward,” the statement emphasized.
