Retired South Jersey police officer charged with sexual assault of underage girl.
A retired police officer from South Jersey is facing charges related to the alleged sexual assault of a minor, as announced by Burlington County Prosecutor LaChia L. Bradshaw. Louis J. Baselice, 67, formerly associated with the Haddonfield Police Department, was taken into custody at the Maple Shade Police Department on Tuesday and is currently being held in the Burlington County Jail, awaiting a detention hearing.
Baselice’s employment with the Haddonfield Police Department extended from 1980 until his retirement in 2010. His tenure included a role as a school resource officer from 2005 until 2009, during which time the department reportedly received no complaints or reports of misconduct. However, the recent allegations have prompted investigations following reports initiated by acquaintances of the victim.
According to information released by the prosecutor’s office, Baselice is accused of engaging in inappropriate conduct with the girl, which allegedly included providing her with gifts such as an electric scooter and a cell phone. He also reportedly supplied her with a credit card number for purchasing food, raising concerns about his influence and intentions towards the minor.
