El Niño may disrupt marine life along Southern California’s coastline.

Scientists are particularly on alert for yellow-bellied sea snakes, which usually inhabit waters no further north than the tip of the Baja Peninsula. The occurrence of these snakes is rare, with only six documented in California, five of which coincided with El Niño years.
