Montgomery County man faces attempted murder charges for shooting at a cyclist and police officers.

A man from Pennsburg, Pennsylvania, is facing multiple charges, including attempted murder and robbery, following a violent incident that culminated in a dramatic two-county car chase. On Wednesday, 35-year-old Charles Bowne III allegedly initiated the sequence of events by robbing a cyclist at gunpoint in Marlborough Township, according to law enforcement officials.

The situation began to unfold shortly before noon when the victim, having been threatened, used a passerby’s cell phone to contact authorities. Reports indicate that Bowne approached the cyclist while he was riding on Swamp Creek Road. During the encounter, Bowne allegedly brandished a .44 Magnum revolver, shouting menacingly at the cyclist to “go home to [his] family.” The suspect demanded the man’s bicycle and cell phone. When the victim attempted to flee, Bowne reportedly fired the revolver five to six times but did not hit his target.

The escalation continued as a Marlborough Township police officer, responding to the robbery, spotted Bowne’s Ford Mustang parked nearby. When the officer approached, Bowne fired at him before fleeing the scene, igniting a pursuit that involved law enforcement from multiple jurisdictions, including Bucks and Montgomery Counties, as well as state police. This high-stakes chase lasted nearly two hours, during which Bowne continued to fire at the pursuing officers, creating a tense and dangerous situation across the region.

Bowne is currently in custody, having had his bail denied by District Judge Katherine McGill, who deemed him a potential danger to the community.
