A 36-year-old man is injured in a hit-and-run incident in Brooklyn.
A tragic hit-and-run incident occurred in Brooklyn late Thursday evening, resulting in the death of a 36-year-old man as he attempted to cross a street in the Ocean Hill neighborhood. The incident is particularly alarming as it marks the second fatal hit-and-run in New York City’s five boroughs within a 24-hour period, according to law enforcement officials.
The victim was struck by a gray Ford vehicle near Broadway Junction, specifically at the intersection of Broadway and East New York Avenue, around 10 p.m. Emergency Medical Services (EMS) swiftly transported him to Brookdale University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. Authorities have not yet released the victim’s name pending family notification.
The driver of the Ford did not stop at the scene and fled the area, evading capture by law enforcement. As of Saturday, the individual responsible for this tragic event remains at large, raising concerns about public safety and accountability in hit-and-run incidents.
In a separate, unrelated event on the same day, another hit-and-run occurred involving a Ford Mustang in the Bronx. This incident took place at the intersection of East 149th Street and Courtlandt Avenue in the Melrose area. Witnesses reported that the Mustang was traveling east when the driver struck a pedestrian while attempting to execute a right turn. The vehicle then lost control, mounted the curb, and crashed into scaffolding, injuring five additional pedestrians who were nearby.
Following the chaotic collision, both the driver and a passenger managed to exit the damaged Mustang and fled the scene on foot. They remain unidentified and at large, posing further concern over street safety in the boroughs.
In response to these events, data from law enforcement reveals that as of Thursday, 55 pedestrians have tragically lost their lives after being struck by vehicles while crossing New York City streets this year. This figure reflects a slight decline from the 63 pedestrian fatalities recorded at the same point last year, indicating a complex and ongoing challenge for city officials and safety advocates.
The alarming incidents highlight the urgent need for continued public safety measures and enforcement to protect pedestrians, who are often vulnerable to such reckless driving behaviors in urban environments. As investigations continue, officials urge anyone with information about either hit-and-run to come forward and assist in bringing the responsible parties to justice.
