Art Advisors Open Pop-Up Exhibit in Rancho Santa Fe Village

A new pop-up art exhibition, titled “This is Now,” has revitalized a long-vacant corner space in Rancho Santa Fe’s village, which has stood empty for over a decade. Curated by the Ryan Campbell Garrett Art Advisory, the exhibit showcases a diverse range of artworks from notable artists, including Ed Ruscha, Hugo McCloud, Lynne Drexler, and more. The exhibition will be open to the public until April 25.

The thematic inspiration for the exhibit draws from Ed Ruscha’s work “That was Then This is Now.” Renowned for his unique incorporation of typography and phrases into his paintings, Ruscha’s influence is palpable throughout the show. Visitors can view an eye-catching piece by Whitney Bedford, featuring vibrant pink and orange trees set against a dynamic landscape. This impressive artwork consists of two sizable 90-inch by 90-inch panels that required innovative efforts to fit through the venue’s side door, highlighting the logistics involved in curating such a display.

The exhibition’s launch, held on March 29, was met with an enthusiastic response from the community, particularly as it aimed to reconnect local residents with art after a prolonged absence from the space. Ryan Garrett, who leads RCG Art Advisory, expressed her intention behind the pop-up, stating it serves to engage the community while introducing them to her art advisory firm.

RCG Art Advisory specializes in assisting both novice and experienced art collectors in curating, acquiring, and managing their art collections. Garrett emphasized the importance of building meaningful collections that resonate with clients, which she achieves through personalized consultations and a deep understanding of their artistic preferences.

With over 25 years of experience in the art industry, Garrett has cultivated relationships with top galleries, enabling her to offer clients unique opportunities to acquire art from various genres. Her professional journey includes stints at prestigious institutions, which have provided her with invaluable insights into the art world.

The collaborative nature of the pop-up exhibition has also involved local businesses and residents directly, with plans for future events aimed at further engaging the community and reviving the village’s cultural landscape. On April 15, RCG Art Advisory is set to partner with local retailers and restaurants for a charitable event featuring live music, showcasing a commitment to community involvement.

As “This is Now” continues through its exhibition period, hopes are high for its success to pave the way for additional art installations and future exhibitions that could sustain a vibrant artistic presence in Rancho Santa Fe. The endeavor reflects a broader ambition to re-establish a cultural hub within the village, fostering appreciation for contemporary art while supporting local engagement.
