Bronx crash: Woman killed after speeding and losing control of her vehicle before the collision.
A tragic vehicular accident occurred in the Bronx early Friday morning, resulting in the death of a 29-year-old woman and injuries to four others. The incident took place around 4:30 a.m. on the eastbound lane of the Bruckner Expressway near Whittier Street in the Soundview neighborhood. According to police reports, the woman, identified as Angie Miguel, was driving a 2016 white Infiniti sedan at an unsafe speed when she lost control of the vehicle on a curve.
As Miguel navigated the road, she spun out of control and veered towards two large trucks that were slowing down for a red light. Despite their attempts to avoid the collision, the Infiniti struck the rear of one truck, subsequently causing it to rear-end the other truck in front. The impact was severe, leading to catastrophic consequences for the occupants of the Infiniti.
Accompanying Miguel in the vehicle were a 26-year-old woman and a 29-year-old man, both of whom were hospitalized alongside the two male drivers of the trucks, aged 26 and 29. Emergency responders quickly arrived at the scene and transported all five individuals to Lincoln Hospital, where Miguel was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. The other four individuals sustained injuries but are expected to survive, according to medical professionals.
Authorities reported that Miguel, a resident of New Haven, Connecticut, was traveling roughly 70 miles from her home at the time of the accident. The section of the Bruckner Expressway where the crash occurred features a rightward curve as it crosses the Bronx River, heightening the risks associated with excessive speeds.
In the aftermath of the incident, police have not made any arrests, and investigations are ongoing to determine the specific factors that contributed to the crash. The tragic event serves as a sobering reminder of the dangers of speeding and the importance of maintaining safe driving practices on the road.
As the investigation continues, the community reflects on the loss of life and the impact of such accidents on families and loved ones. Traffic safety remains a critical concern in urban environments, and raising awareness of safe driving habits is essential to preventing further tragedies.
