Bronx man attacks 12-year-old stepdaughter, stabbing her and hammering a screw into her head.

A 28-year-old man from the Bronx has been arrested following a shocking incident of domestic violence that involved the stabbing of his wife and stepdaughter. Law enforcement officials report that Joshua Burnside was involved in a violent altercation inside the family apartment, located on East 173rd Street near West Farms Road in the Crotona Park East neighborhood. This incident occurred just after 11:15 PM on Wednesday night.

According to police accounts, the confrontation began as a heated argument between Burnside and his 31-year-old wife. In an attempt to defend herself, the wife reportedly picked up a knife, which Burnside then seized. He proceeded to stab her in the abdomen and slash her face. Upon hearing her daughter’s cries for help from outside the apartment, the wife fled in search of assistance.

In a further escalation of the violence, Burnside turned his attention to his 12-year-old stepdaughter, who had witnessed the brutal attack on her mother. Burnside allegedly assaulted the girl, stabbing her multiple times in the head, body, and face. Disturbingly, after inflicting these injuries, he is accused of using a hammer to drive a long screw into the side of her head.

During the chaotic events, two other young children—a 5-year-old boy and a 2-year-old girl—were present in the apartment but thankfully emerged unscathed.

Law enforcement responded promptly to the scene and took Burnside into custody without resistance. Injuries sustained by his wife and the younger children were classified as minor, and they were treated at Jacobi Hospital. However, the stepdaughter was transported to Cohen Children’s Medical Center, where she underwent surgery. Medical professionals initially reported deep bruising to the girl’s head and later discovered the screw had penetrated her brain, leaving her in critical condition.

Joshua Burnside has been charged with multiple offenses, including assault, criminal possession of a weapon, and endangering the welfare of a child. Following his arrest, he was also taken to a local hospital for a psychiatric evaluation. As of now, an arraignment in Bronx Criminal Court is pending.

This harrowing situation has drawn considerable attention to the issue of domestic violence, underscoring the need for effective intervention and support systems for affected families. The community remains in shock as details of this highly disturbing case continue to unfold.
