A violent confrontation in Manhattan resulted in the death of a gunman, identified as Elijah Brown, 20, during a shootout with police on November 13, 2025. Prior to the incident, Brown reportedly threatened a resident in an elevator at a building located on Madison Avenue, near East 106th Street. The victim, a cab driver named Mohammed, recounted the ordeal, explaining how Brown approached him in the elevator and, after some initial conversation, brandished a firearm while threatening, “I will kill you.” Mohammed expressed disbelief and fear during the encounter, initially mistaking the weapon for a toy.
After exiting the elevator, Brown proceeded to a nearby deli on Madison Avenue at East 107th Street. There, he again brandished his gun, instructing a worker to call 911 and stating his intention to engage in acts of violence at a hospital. He also stole the deli worker’s cell phone before leaving the establishment. Brown’s erratic behavior continued as he was seen interacting with police at Mount Sinai Medical Center, where he indicated that he had a firearm. He then stepped outside, retrieved his weapon, and subsequently engaged officers in a shootout.
As officers from the NYPD’s 19th Precinct arrived at Madison Avenue and East 96th Street, Brown opened fire. Authorities confirmed that officers returned fire in response to the immediate danger posed by the gunman.
