The violent encounter, recorded on bodycam footage, triggered legal action against ten correctional officers. David Kingsley was convicted of murder and manslaughter, while five other officers pleaded guilty to lesser charges of manslaughter related to Brooks’ death. Additionally, Nicholas Gentile was convicted of attempted tampering with physical evidence after he admitted to cleaning up the scene of the attack.
