Father and daughter identified as victims in crash of plane aiding Jamaica hurricane relief efforts.

A small plane transporting humanitarian aid to Jamaica tragically crashed in South Florida on Monday, resulting in the deaths of two individuals identified as Alexander Wurm, 53, the CEO of a Christian ministry, and his daughter, Serena Wurm, 22. The Beechcraft King Air B-100, bound for Montego Bay, went down in a pond in Coral Springs shortly after departing from Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport at approximately 10:20 a.m.

Alexander Wurm was the founder of Ignite the Fire, an organization dedicated to empowering youth in the Caribbean through missions and evangelism. The group was engaged in delivering supplies to those affected by Hurricane Melissa, a devastating category-5 storm that struck Jamaica on October 28, leaving at least 32 dead and causing extensive damage across the region.

The organization announced the unfortunate news of their deaths via social media late Monday evening. Wurm was remembered as a devoted individual known for his warmth, kindness, and commitment to serving others. His daughter, Serena, was also recognized for her dedication to humanitarian efforts, carrying on her father’s legacy with compassion and hope.

In light of the tragedy, Sean Malone, CEO and co-founder of Crisis Response International, spoke about the logistical difficulties faced in providing relief supplies to Jamaica and highlighted the significant role Alexander Wurm played in transporting resources to the island at his own expense. Malone expressed disbelief at the loss and noted that Wurm had been an integral part of their efforts in the days leading up to the accident.

The flight had a scheduled arrival at Sangster International Airport around 12:35 p.m., but it met a tragic fate just minutes after takeoff. As of Tuesday morning, authorities had not reported any additional casualties related to the crash.

The incident adds to the widespread grief felt by the community and acknowledges the significant human cost of humanitarian efforts, especially in the wake of natural disasters. The Wurm family’s dedication to serving those in need serves as a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made by many in the realm of humanitarian work. Further investigations into the crash are underway to determine the cause of the accident.
