Honda recalls over 880,000 vehicles due to issues with rear suspension components.
Honda Motor Co. is initiating a significant recall affecting over 800,000 vehicles due to safety concerns related to the rear suspension components. This recall is particularly vital as a potential failure of these components could lead to a loss of control while driving, thereby increasing the risk of accidents and injury.
The vehicles subject to this recall include specific models from the years 2016 to 2022, encompassing the Honda Pilot and Ridgeline, as well as the Passport models from 2019 to 2023. Additionally, the recall also affects the Acura MDX from the production years 2014 to 2020. In total, 880,514 vehicles are impacted, primarily those sold across various states, including Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia, West Virginia, and Wisconsin.
The specific issue arises from potential corrosion at the mounting points of the rear subframe, which could compromise the structural integrity of the rear suspension system. Honda has indicated that approximately 1% of the recalled vehicles are expected to exhibit this defect; however, it should be noted that the company has no reported warranty claims related to the issue, nor have there been any reported injuries or fatalities.
To resolve this defect, Honda and Acura dealerships will conduct inspections of the rear subframe of affected vehicles. If necessary, they will install a reinforcement kit or proceed with the repair or replacement of the problematic rear subframe components—all at no cost to vehicle owners.
Customers can expect to receive notification letters regarding this recall by July 7. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has designated the recall campaign number 26V367000, while Honda has assigned it the identification numbers AOU and AOT.
