Austin Police Chief Lisa Davis confirmed that the victim sustained a single gunshot wound to the torso during the encounter, which took place on the city’s north side.
Local law enforcement officials clarified that the Austin Police Department was not involved in the operation that led to the shooting. Instead, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), which oversees ICE, has conducted an initial review but has yet to provide detailed information regarding the circumstances of the event.
In response to community concerns, Austin Mayor Kirk Watson has called for the Austin Police Department to lead the investigation into the shooting.
