Freed reportedly fled the scene of the crash without notifying the police and sought a ride from a female acquaintance shortly after the incident, during which he expressed concern that his friend might be gravely injured or deceased. The accident occurred on April 24, with state police dispatched to the scene on Whites Mill Road in Salford Township, Montgomery County at 2:41 a.m. This prompt response was triggered by a 911 call from the Kia Sorrento Freed was driving. This particular vehicle is equipped with a system that automatically contacts emergency services when airbags are deployed, ensuring that help arrives swiftly. Despite the unfortunate circumstances, dispatchers noted hearing a voice during the call inquiring about the vehicle’s location, alongside a claim that the individual involved was unharmed.

Upon arrival, police found the Kia overturned in a ditch, with the teenage victim discovered approximately 20 yards away, deceased. Freed’s father arrived shortly after, initially believing his son was at home. However, he later corrected this statement and provided police with the contact information of one of Freed’s friends after being informed about the female voice heard on the emergency call.

The young woman later came forward to detectives, revealing that Freed had contacted her shortly after the crash, requesting to be picked up. She took him to her residence, from where her parents subsequently contacted Freed’s parents to arrange transportation home. During their conversation, Freed allegedly indicated to his parents that he lost control of the vehicle while attempting to avoid a deer on the road.

The day following the crash, Freed’s father contacted police to confirm his son’s involvement and his return home. When law enforcement attempted to question Freed, he and his parents declined to cooperate, citing that they had engaged legal representation.
