Man dies in La Jolla after scooter collides with concrete barrier.
A tragic accident on the night of April 11 in La Jolla resulted in the death of a 25-year-old man after he lost control of his sports scooter and crashed into a concrete barrier, according to information released by the San Diego Police Department.
Emergency responders were dispatched to the scene at 9:06 PM to the 3200 block of Torrey Pines Road, an area located near Torrey Pines Elementary School. Upon arrival, officers learned that the rider, operating a 2023 Yamaha XMAX, had been traveling northbound on Torrey Pines Road when he was unable to navigate a curve in the roadway. This loss of control culminated in a collision with the concrete barrier lining the sidewalk.
The impact ejected the rider from the scooter, and he fell into a southbound lane of traffic. Unfortunately, he was subsequently struck by another vehicle. Reports indicate that the driver of this vehicle fled the scene following the collision. The rider suffered severe injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
