Orange Lutheran football suffers defeat against Sierra Canyon following a challenging beginning to the game.

Orange Lutheran High School’s football team faced a formidable challenge in their most recent nonleague matchup against the highly regarded Sierra Canyon High School on September 18, 2026. The game, held in Chatsworth, marked the conclusion of a tough stretch for Orange Lutheran, who came into the contest hoping to improve on their early season performance.

From the outset, Sierra Canyon established dominance. The Trailblazers, ranked sixth nationally by MaxPreps and third in California by hsratings, took an early lead of 21-0 after the first quarter and pushed the score to 28-3 by halftime. Despite facing a daunting opponent, the Lancers exhibited resilience, particularly during the second half.

During the game, Orange Lutheran struggled to find its rhythm early on. However, as the second half began, they demonstrated potential with a 5-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Ezrah Brown to receiver Chris Flores Jr. This followed an interception by player Anthony McClure and a significant sack by Cory Panapa. Notably, in contrast to their performance in the first half, the Lancers only committed one penalty after the break, successfully managing their discipline after a challenging start wherein they accumulated 11 penalties for 115 yards.

In his assessment, first-year head coach Ray Fenton noted the improvement seen in the second half and acknowledged that the initial period was a learning experience for the team. Fenton highlighted the need to refine certain aspects of their game as they look forward to their next opponent.

Sierra Canyon’s offensive machine was led by senior running back Jaxsen Stokes, who left a lasting impression by accumulating 134 of his total 166 rushing yards in the first half alone. Stokes scored two of the Trailblazers’ rushing touchdowns, setting the tone for a powerful physical performance. The Trailblazers’ ground game was further bolstered by diverse contributions, including scoring plays from receiver Sir Homer King Webb and running back Faruq Muhammad.

Defensively, Sierra Canyon stood out with a relentless pass rush, highlighted by standout performances from players like Marcus Fakatou, who was instrumental in disrupting Orange Lutheran’s attempts to establish a rhythm. Fakatou, a senior committed to Ohio State, registered 1.5 sacks in addition to his pivotal role in a goal-line stand that thwarted the Lancers’ efforts to score just before halftime.

Despite the loss, Orange Lutheran’s sophomore running back Ryan Christianson emerged as a bright spot for the Lancers, rushing for 127 yards with an impressive 101 yards coming in the first half. His consistent performance marked his third consecutive game surpassing the 100-yard benchmark.

Looking ahead, Orange Lutheran will take a much-needed bye week before resuming play against Servite on October 2 at Orange Coast College, continuing their journey through one of the most competitive schedules in high school football.

As the Lancers regroup and refine their strategies, they remain focused on building on the lessons learned from this high-profile contest against one of the nation’s top teams.
